Oil Spills in Niger Delta: Ejama Ebubu

Impressions from Ejama Ebubu, Rivers State, Nigeria: Located close to Port Harcourt, a pipeline running trough this site was first bombed during the Biafra War in 1971, and has been affected by oil spills since. The latest oil spill occurred just before the UNEP team arrived on site in mid-2010.

In spite of assessments that were carried out, a remediation attempt utilising a small-scale thermal desorption unit (TDU) in 2006 failed. The TDU is shown on two of the photos, and can be seen as a blue spot in the lower left of the aerial view.
